Physical Therapy

Physical Therapy

Physical therapy (PT) is a healthcare profession focused on restoring, maintaining, and improving a person’s movement, function, and overall quality of life. It is especially important in the management of orthopedic and musculoskeletal conditions, which involve the muscles, bones, joints, ligaments, and tendons.

What Physical Therapy Involves

A physical therapist evaluates movement patterns, strength, flexibility, posture, balance, and pain. Based on this assessment, they design an individualized treatment plan that may include:

  • Therapeutic exercises to improve strength, mobility, and endurance

  • Manual therapy techniques such as joint mobilization and soft tissue work

  • Neuromuscular re-education to improve movement control and coordination

  • Pain management strategies (e.g., modalities, education, activity modification)

  • Functional training to return to daily activities, work, or sports

Upper Extremity Conditions

  • Tennis elbow (lateral epicondylitis)

  • Golfer’s elbow (medial epicondylitis)

  • Rotator cuff tendinitis / tears

  • Shoulder impingement syndrome

  • Frozen shoulder (adhesive capsulitis)

  • Shoulder instability / dislocation

  • Biceps tendinitis

  • Labral tears (shoulder)

  • Carpal tunnel syndrome

  • Wrist sprains and strains

  • De Quervain’s tenosynovitis

Spine / Back Conditions

  • Low back pain (acute and chronic)

  • Herniated or bulging discs

  • Sciatica / nerve root irritation

  • Degenerative disc disease

  • Spinal stenosis

  • Scoliosis

  • Postural dysfunction

  • Facet joint dysfunction

  • Whiplash-associated disorders

  • Sacroiliac (SI) joint dysfunction

Lower Extremity Conditions

  • ACL (anterior cruciate ligament) tears / reconstruction rehab

  • Meniscus tears

  • MCL/LCL sprains

  • Patellofemoral pain syndrome (runner’s knee)

  • IT band syndrome

  • Hip labral tears

  • Hip impingement (FAI)

  • Hip bursitis

  • Achilles tendinitis / Achilles rupture rehab

  • Plantar fasciitis

  • Ankle sprains (lateral ligament injuries)

  • Shin splints (medial tibial stress syndrome)

  • Hamstring strains

  • Quadriceps strains

Overuse / Inflammatory Conditions

  • Tendinitis / tendinopathy (various sites)

  • Bursitis (shoulder, hip, elbow, knee)

  • Stress reactions and stress fractures

  • Myofascial pain syndrome

Post-Surgical Rehabilitation

  • Total knee replacement (TKR)

  • Total hip replacement (THR)

  • Shoulder replacement (arthroplasty)

  • ACL reconstruction

  • Rotator cuff repair

  • Meniscus repair surgery rehab

  • Spinal surgery rehab (discectomy, laminectomy, fusion)

General Musculoskeletal Dysfunction

  • Muscle strains and ligament sprains

  • Joint stiffness and hypomobility

  • General deconditioning / weakness

  • Balance and proprioception deficits
